The actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi is caught in a fresh litigation. At a time when his Praja Rajyam Party is planning to seek disqualification of two of its rebel MLAs-- Shobha Nagireddy and Katasani Ramireddy, they have administered a preemptive strike by approaching the Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar, expressing their strong opposition to the merger of PRP with Congress.
An advocate representing the two pro-Jagan legislators met the Deputy Speaker on Saturday and submitted a letter containing their arguments. They said that they were strongly opposed to the merger proposal. A similar letter is also being sent to the Election Commission. The move is aimed at countering the disqualification proceedings against them.
They argued that since they are not in favour of the party's decision to merge with Congress, they should be treated as independents. There is a provision in the constitution for such a course, they contended.
This will certainly put Chiranjeevi in a fix. He may be forced to desist from approaching the Deputy Speaker, seeking the disqualification of the two MLAs.Moreover, Chiranjeevi has exposed himself to criticism over his decision to campaign for the Congress even before the merger is formalized.
