Former minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy, who has almost been in political oblivion ever since he had lost the by-elections to Pulivendula assembly seat, has come to the defence of his nephew Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, president of YSR Congress party, against whom the state High Court has ordered a full-fledged CBI inquiry.
Viveka, the younger brother of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, appears to have decided to stand by his nephew in this hour of crisis. And if it comes to the crunch he is even prepared to severe ties with the Congress.
“Our family never indulges in corruption. It is not in our grain. It is not proper on the part of the Congress leaders to defame YSR to hit Jagan below the belt,” Viveka said.
Interestingly, Viveka has been a political rival of Jagan and had contested the by-election from Pulivendula against YSR’s widow Y S Vijayamma.
“The Congress leaders are deliberately targeting Jagan to defame him and the memory of YSR,” he said.
He even asked as to how Jagan could be held responsible for the land allotments made during the previous regime headed by YSR.
“What is the link between that and Jagan’s own businesses,” he wondered.
Viveka’s remarks signify that the YSR’s family is united in defending the charges against his regime. In the process, Viveka may be forced to drift away from the Congress.
