YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday dared the Congress to take action against all the MLAs backing him and asked why only some MLAs were picked for action.
In his road show in Kadapa and the adjoining villages, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy maintained that his party would not enter into any alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party and charged the Congress leaders with unleashing a malicious campaign against him to distance the minorities from his party, but their attempts at mudslinging would not influence the people.
The Congress was resorting to arm-twisting methods in a bid to counter him but he would not budge, he said.
Tears into Congress
Mr. Jagan lambasted the Congress for canvassing with his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's portrait despite splitting his family and fielding his uncle, Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, against his mother in Pulivendula Assembly constituency. He charged the Congress with colluding with the TDP, but his mother and he had the blessings of god and the people, he said.
He announced in his road show at Devunikadapa that he and his mother, contesting as YSR Congress Party candidates for Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, were allotted the “ceiling fan” symbol. He displayed a poster carrying his and his mother's portraits, the party flag and the ceiling fan symbol. Cases were foisted on about 7,000 sympathisers of the YSR Congress by the police under pressure from the government, Mr Jagan alleged.
The former MP canvassed in Ramachandrapuram, Ramarajupuram, Built-up junction, ITI circle, Industrial Estate, Central Jail circle, YSR Park circle, Ukkayapalle, Devunikadapa, Pathakadapa, Alamkhanpalle, Rookavandlapalle, Palempalle, Batchumpalle, Machupalle, Apsara Circle and RTC bus stand circle in and around Kadapa on Thursday.
