D. A. Somayajulu, who quit as economic advisor to the government a few months ago, has decided to re-enter mainstream politics and is set to join the YSR Congress. Mr. Somayajulu had submitted his resignation to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Mr.Somayajulu, who was a close aide of late Chief Minister Y. S. Mr. Somayajulu also mentioned that he wanted to enter mainstream politics.
To meet Jagan
Mr. Somayajulu will be leaving for Kadapa to call on YSR Congress president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy and his mother Y.S. Vijayamma.
Mr. Somayajulu had submitted his resignation after Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, upon his appointment as the Chief Minister, indicated to the media that he intended to seek the resignations of all the advisors. However, the Chief Minister neither accepted the resignation nor rejected them. He also did not assign any work to the advisors in the last few months.
When Mr. Somayajulu pressed for acceptance of his resignation in February, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy sought his inputs for the budget preparation for 2011-12. Mr. Somayajulu had sent another letter to the Chief Minister in March seeking that he be relieved after the last day of the budget session.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Somayajulu said he had worked with the Congress for 10 years and had a good working relationship with several Ministers. He was one of the advisors appointed by YSR after he became Chief Minister in 2004.
Recalling his association with YSR, Mr. Somayajulu said YSR launched several landmark schemes like Arogyasri and Jalayagnam and implemented the free power scheme for farmers without increasing power tariff to other sectors for five years.
