Y S Vijayalakshmi, who broke the victory margin of her late husband Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to win the byelection from Pulivendula, was her normal self and did not celebrate the victory. She maintained a low profile even as the YSR Congress party cadre burst out in cheers as the victory margin was being flashed on the TV screens.
Vijayamma was here to attend the marriage of former minister and Jagan loyalist Balineni Srinivasa Reddy's son on Friday. Vijayamma, who reached Ongole late in the night, spent more than six hours at the marriage venue and personally oversaw the arrangements.
She did not show any enthusiasm either to find out the victory margin or the counting trends when she was at the function hall. "It is not possible for any leader to remain calm when his/her political fortunes are emerging. She kept her cool and we were aware that both Vijayamma and Jagan would win the election hands down," said Darsi legislator and Jagan follower Buchepalli Sivaprasada Reddy.
Interestingly, several ministers attended the marriage but Vijayamma did not meet any of them. She even refused to cut a huge cake brought by the local party cadres to the venue. She merely thanked them with folded hands.
When media chased her for her comment while leaving the marriage hall around noon, by which time it was already clear that she was way ahead of her nearest rival Vivekananda Reddy, Vijayamma refused to comment. "I cannot make any comment now. Please, understand. Thanks for coming," were the few words she uttered before leaving the hall. She left for Pulivendula by road later.
