Does anybody remember when Congress president Sonia Gandhi came to Andhra Pradesh last time?
Well, to refresh the memories of the readers, the last time when somebody saw Sonia Gandhi coming to the state was to pay homage to Bhagwan Satya Sai Baba at Puttaparthi last month, but that was only for a few minutes.
Her earlier visit was to the state was in October 2009, when there were heavy floods to Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers. Prior to that she came to pay last respects to former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the first week of September 2009.
But nobody remembers seeing Sonia at public gatherings in the state. When YSR was alive, he used to bring Sonia for every important occasion and she used to address public meetings, praising YSR and his government.
After YSR’s death, Sonia has stopped coming to AP, except for those solemn occasions, but not happy occasions.
It appears Sonia is now scared of coming to Andhra Pradesh for messing up the political situation in the state in the post-YSR period. If she comes to Telangana, she has to answer the questions on her earlier promise to grant separate statehood to Telangana region. If she comes to Seemandhra, she would have to face the onslaught of the supporters of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. Especially after the recent by-elections outcome, Sonia will never dare enter the AP.
Perhaps this is the reason why Sonia refused to entertain the request of Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi to attend a massive rally where she would formally announce the merger of the PRP with the Congress!
