The stage appears to be getting ready for CBI raids on YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s properties and on companies and individuals who had invested in his business ventures.
Armed with the High Court order for a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged illegal assets of Jagan, the CBI has stepped up its efforts to collect all the data. Teams of CBI officials are arriving in Hyderabad from Chennai, Bangalore and Visakhapatnam.
A multi-disciplinary team is being formed comprising officials from CBI, Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax Departments to probe the case.
There is intense speculation in political circles that simultaneous raids are on the cards, targeting Jagan’s key properties and also his investors. The federal investigating agency is preparing to file a detailed charge sheet, giving instances of violations of various laws. It is not clear whether Jagan would be called in for questioning.
The CBI raids, if and when they take place, are bound to set off a storm in political circles. Jagan and his party colleagues are preparing for a major campaign against what they call political vindictiveness and witch-hunting. Jagan has already moved the Supreme Court, challenging the High Court’s order for full-fledged CBI probe and contending that he was being targeted by the ruling Congress for leaving the party.
