Summer Groups in the Library

SUMMER PROGRAMS and their Learning Commons Access

Who: Emory Pre-College Program

When: mid May-mid July

  • LC access: YES, all students should have a netID and password.

    • The Emory Pre-College Program offers students an opportunity to preview the best of college life: from compelling courses taught by renowned faculty to life on a vibrant campus, from becoming an active participant in the university, local, and global communities to developing friendships with other students from around the world. Emory Pre-College students will experience a challenging college-level academic course, but they will also gain exposure to other academic disciplines, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and residential college life.

Who: SIG (Summer Institute for the Gifted) [5th-12th graders]

When: mid June-early August

    • LC access: OK (but they are not encouraged to use the library and they have their own computer lab). IF the groups are with their adult leaders, they can be logged into the LC by the adult leader if the leader stays with them. The adult leaders should have their own emoryunivad netids/pws (netids start with CONF#####) which they can use to log in the students. If the leaders do not have their netid with them, you can give them the LC login (but they must not give the info to the students, they need to log the students in) – however, this is at your discretion. If the library is too crowded, etc. you can deny access [Info per Sherri Ebrahimi, Coordinator of Summer Programs at Emory, 7-0429].

    • Approx. 80 students, 5th-12th grades.

Who: Project GRAD

When: June

  • LC access: Yes, BUT their adult leaders have the login and can log them on.

    • Approx 45 particpants from Atlanta Public Schools. They will be coming to the library in groups of about 20 with their adult leaders. Their adult leaders will have the Learning Commons login/password and can log the students on to the LC workstations. (We are not supposed to give the logins to the students directly.)

Who: Mellon Fellows

When: June

  • LC access: YES, all students should have a netID and password.

    • Emory hosts the Summer Institute for the UNCF/Mellon Fellows each June. Unlike most other summer groups, the Mellon students have full access to library resources.

    • In case you get questions about how they should log into our systems, here’s an overview:

      • Non-Emory Students:

        • Library Accounts: Affiliate log-in and 9999# on their paper card issued by Jessica. They will use this as their usename and password.

        • Interlibrary Loan: They will use their 9999# in the username field of the Proxy Login and will leave the password blank.

        • Blackboard: They will use the blackboard ID based on their name and distributed by Kathy Hayes.

        • Learning Commons Workstations: They will use their summer conference housing IDs, which are distributed by Sherry Ebrahimi. If students have problems, please use the LC user name and password to log them in.

      • Emory Students:

        • Use their regular usernames and passwords.

Who: SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience)

When: June – early August

  • LC access: YES, all students should have a netID and password.

    • A summer research experience for undergraduates where students work in science labs full-time for 10 weeks . They also reside on campus (Clairmont) and are enrolled for the summer as special status students.

    • Over 100 students will be participating –approx 60 of those are Emory students and are familiar with our campus (although the few who are Oxford students are new to our campus). The rest attend other colleges and universities and may have questions.
