Group Study Room Reservation Policy

It's no secret that the library gets very, very busy around exam time. This means that study space is at a premium, including our group study rooms. That being the case, the potential for conflict between patrons can increase. Recently a point of contention has been how we interpret what happens when the reserving group is 15 minutes late to the reserved space. Does the group lose the 30 minute time slot or the entire reservation? The answer is that the group loses the entire reservation, not just the 30 minute slot. Alex has changed the language on the Reserved Spaces FAQ page and the Resource Scheduler page to make this more clear. You can review the policies below:
Group study rooms are student collaborative learning spaces; they are not individual study spaces, staff meeting rooms or classrooms.
A room can be reserved no more than 14 days in advance.
You can only reserve one room at a time for one consecutive period on a given day. If you need to make additional reservations for the same or a different room, please do so after you submit this reservation form. Note that multiple reservations for the same day have to be at least 3 hours apart. The daily maximum reservation limit is 3 hours for all rooms combined.
Recurring reservations are not allowed.
If your group is late for more than 15 min, your entire reservation will be forfeited.
The rooms cannot be reserved or held by posting signs or placing personal belongings in them. Unattended items will be removed.
One other point - if you have to involve the library security staff, during a contested situation, at that point you can step back and relinquish the situation to them. They may ask you for additional information, but you no longer need to interact with the patrons regarding the contested space.
