Starting Wednesday, October 16th, at the request of UTS, we will be starting a new Learning Commons tasks routine. This will include keeping computer workstations bizhubs/printer release stations orderly and tidy (equipment is where is supposed to be, chairs at workstations, etc) throughout the day on L1-L3, Music and Media, and Matheson. We will also be checking group studies on L2, L6, and L7 twice a day (the group study key is in the same cabinet as the L1 key). This is similar to what we did before with checking group studies. However, it will be somewhat less involved. Here's the checklist of what to check:
Group Studies: furniture is arranged properly, cables hanging on hooks, area is generally tidy and ready for next user
The monitor is in the middle of the desk
The keyboard is in front of the monitor
The mouse is to the right of the keyboard
The mouse is on the mousepad (replace the mousepad if missing)
The computer is on (turn it on if it is off; sometimes the power cord gets disconnected from the back of the iMac)
The desktop space is clear of paper, garbage, etc.
The chair is next to the desk
Printer release stations: card reader is between monitor and keyboard
Bizhubs: OMEGA box (box that connects bizhub and touch screen) is secure (not out/under feet) and OMEGA panel (touch screen) fixed to velcro pad.
*If any computer/printer/bizhub equipment is missing, damaged, inoperable, etc, please report the issue to the Report LC Problems Here.
There will be a daily task sheet with a checklist at the supervisor’s desk that lists what areas to check and when. The regular LC cleaning schedule will also be included on this sheet along with other tasks. All daily tasks will now be located at the supervisor’s desk. Please track these as Learning Commons tasks in Desktracker.
There will also be a similar sheet on level one. Level one will be tidying more frequently since we have less traffic down there. Folks who work on level one will need to be particularly diligent about checking the sheet and completing their tasks. There will be a new Destracker options to track these tasks.
It may seem like a lot when you see the new task sheet, but it really shouldn’t be too taxing – particularly when most of the computers are occupied at the busier times of the day.
As always, feel free to ask Rich or the desk supervisor if you have any questions.
Thanks!!
