1. Printing is slow in isolated incidences:
Printing from a web link:
Advise the user to save the file to the computer prior to printing.
A large file (e.g., multipage PDF or image-heavy Word doc or PP presentation):
Save the file as PDF document —this feature is available through the Print option. If the file is already a PDF, skip to the next step;
Open the PDF file in Preview (the default application for PDFs on our iMacs);
Pull down the “File” menu and choose “Export”;
Select the submenu next to “Quartz Filter” and choose “Reduce File Size”;
Save the new reduced version of the PDF by hitting “Save”;
The new PDF file will be considerably less in size and should print with no delays.
NOTE: you can also advise the user to split the job up into several smaller print jobs to avoid long waiting.
2. Printing is slow for EVERYBODY:
Print a one-page job using Pharos Remote.
The job prints without an issue --> the problem is most likely with the EmoryCard network:
Direct patrons to Document Services on the ground floor of Few Hall, where they can pay with cash or a credit/debit card.
If Doc Services is closed and the print job must be printed immediately as an absolute necessity, you can use Pharos Remote to release the job for the patron.
Report the problem to eagleprint@emory.edu.
The job cannot be printed using Pharos Remote --> the issue is most likely with the Pharos printing network:
Direct patrons to Document Services on the ground floor of Few Hall, where they can pay with cash or a credit/debit card.
If Doc Services is closed and the print job must be printed immediately as an absolute necessity, check with a staff person to see if there are any staff (i.e. non-Pharos) printers that can be used.
