New claims returned policy goes into effect Friday, July 1

This is mostly for supervisors, but student assistants need to be aware of this policy change as well.

Beginning on Friday, July 1, patrons will ultimately be responsible for the lost fee for items marked claims returned that we do not find after searching for two months. Previously, patrons were not charged until they reached five or more claimed returned. Important details:

    • If the item is found by the stacks team during their search (two months & searched for four times), the item is checked in and the patron is not charged.

    • If the item is not found by the stacks team after two months, the patron is charged the lost fee for the item.

    • Once a patron reaches five or more claimed returned, their account is blocked.

It is very important that we communicate this policy change via email, phone, and in person related to any claimed returned requests beginning Friday.
