Hello Everyone,

This is Alex. As Rich has mentioned, Library Service Desk student staffers (you!) will now be responsible for the entire scope of support in the Learning Commons. Now I am one of your supervisors (along with Rich and Mark) and your contact on all of the Learning Commons technical issues. Several things in that regard:

1. I am a member of the Student Digital Life team managed by Tony Shiver Our team is a part of ATS (Academic Technology Services) and is responsible for supporting student spaces and technologies campus wide, including Learning Commons, Computing Center at Cox Hall, graduate and undergraduate computer labs, Student Technology Support (STS that handles students' personal devices), student printing, and more. My role on the team is Learning Commons Coordinator. I will also manage the MediaLab—a new computing multi-media space that will open on Level 4 this Fall.

2. My team mates and I will train you on Learning Commons support matters. Until you are fully trained, your immediate support responsibilities are being communicated through this website. Therefore, it is crucial that you read all the new posts on this page. If you do not, you will not know your evolving responsibilities and will not be able to do your job.

3. I will use Pigin—the IM client installed on each of the three LSD workstations and on the supervisor's station—for direct communication with those students working the shift. You must have Pigin launched at all times when working and monitor it for incoming messages (the icon in the task bar highlights when there is one). You will also use Pigin in case you need my assistance—I will receive your IM on my phone when I am not in the office, including evenings and weekends, and will respond ASAP. As a backup (e.g., when there is an urgent issue and I am driving and thus unable to text), use my cell: 404-536-0969.

4. There is more to follow—stay tuned! Any questions? IM me! :)
