Studies (individual) & Carrels

The responsibility for assigning individual Studies and Carrels is now with the LSD. Studies are small rooms available in the stacks. They have a door and require a key for entry. Carrels are desks in the stacks that students can reserve for extended use. They do not require a key for entry. Mark Johnson will oversee this new responsibility but you too have a part to play. Essentially, you will forward applications to Mark. He will assign the study or carrel. Then, for studies, the patron will pick up their key at the LSD. Here's how the process will work:

  1. Applicants may print out their own copy of the application, study or carrel, then hand it in to our desk. If they haven't printed their own copy, they may ask you for an application. The applications are kept in the small gold filing cabinet under either "Carrel Applications" or "Studies Applications".

  2. Once they have given you the completed form, please put it in the inbox at Mark's desk. He'll make the assignments and notify the patron.

  3. Once individual studies are assigned, the patron will come to the desk to pick up their key. Those are found, likewise, in the small gold filing cabinet under "STUDIES KEYS FOR PICKUP". The patron's name will be on the envelope containing the key to their study. Carrels do not require keys.

Also, please remember that any patron wishing to keep library books in their carrel, must check out the book and insert a pink Carrel Charge card in the book. The Carrel Charge cards are found in the small gold filing cabinet. Studies do not require Carrel Charge cards.
