If a patron reports that an item is missing from the stacks, always begin by looking up the item's record for clues as to its whereabouts...
1. Make sure the patron is using the correct call number and title.
2. Click the Search Tab
Select the Call Numbers - All field and type in the call number. Click OK.
A list of items with that call number will appear. Double click on the item that reads "Book Stacks" with the appropriate call number and title.
3. Under the item list tab, check the following:
In the bottom pane, make sure that the Item Sublibrary is Robert W. Woodruff Library, that the Item Collection is Book Stacks, and the Item Process Status is Not in process.
In the side bar on the left, under Item, make sure the item isn't checked out or on hold.
Also, check the Circulation Log for clues. See where and when the item was last processed.
Look for the Last Return Date, Time, and Location of the item's last return. If the item was returned earlier that day, it may still be on a cart or on the sorting shelves in the Stacks staff area; if returned within the past week, it may still be in the reshelving area on its home floor.

If the info you gathered indicates the item should be on the shelf, please assist by going to the item's location in the stacks and double checking for the patron.
If you cannot locate the item, seek the assistance of the supervisor on duty, who can proceed with placing a missing request on the item.
