Safari e-books

Safari (O’Reilly e-books) is available through both DiscoverE and Databases. This is a tool for those learning how to use software, do computer programming, or app development (you may find it similar to Lynda.com), so book topics include Tableau, Matlab, and Excel Pivot Tables. This is available to all Emory faculty, students, and staff on and off-campus. Also, tech support for O'Reilly/Safari e-books says that we can allow visitors to use these e-books as well! The trick is to use the following email address walkin@emory.edu.

You can find individual titles in DiscoverE or you can go straight to the website: https://www.safaribooksonline.com/library/view/temporary-access/?orpq

Here’s what folks will experience going forward:

1. You will be prompted to enter your Emory email address & will be granted immediate access to the Safari platform. This is the case on campus and off campus. My experience is it does remember you as long as your browser remains open for the day.

2. The first time you visit the site, you will receive an email (that will likely go to your junk mail from O’Reilly). Most of you can ignore or delete this email (much of the information is confusing and wrong).

3. If you want to use the O’Reilly app, then you will need to create an account with O’Reilly.

Please let me know if you have any problems with access to Safari. This is an expensive subscription, so Safari should be making their e-books easy to access and use. If you find that is not the case now, please let me know. If Emory folks complain or they just want a paper copy of a book, feel free to pass this along to me.
