Jobs Printing Slowly or Not at All

  • Ask the patron if the job is a PDF file. If it is, ask which application was used to open it (Preview or Acrobat) and suggest...

      • if it were originally opened and printed from Preview, opening the file in Adobe Acrobat and printing from there instead

      • if it were originally opened and printed from Adobe Acrobat, opening the file in Preview (Mac application) and printing from there instead

IMPORTANT: DO NOT JUST MOVE THE EXISTING JOB TO ANOTHER PRINTER. IF IT IS KILLING ONE PRINTER, IT WILL KILL EVERY SINGLE ONE WE MOVE IT TO. Tell the patron to reopen the job in the other application (Acrobat if first opened in Preview; Preview if first opened in Acrobat) and resend it. From the QUEUED JOBS queue of Pharos, find this newly sent job and print that one for the patron.

    • If the job is a particularly large PDF, also suggest the patron split it up into several smaller print jobs.

  • If the job is not a PDF and if printing seems to be universally slow because the release stations are slow or timing out, try printing a one-page job using Pharos Remote. If it prints without an issue, then most likely the problem is with the EmoryCard network. In this case, report the problem to a supervisor and direct patrons to use Document Services at the DUC, where they can pay with cash or credit. You may print small jobs for desperate patrons using Pharos Remote, but you MUST GET PERMISSION to print anything over 30 pages.
