Proxy Loans

ONLY USE THE PROXY ACCOUNT TO CHECK OUT MATERIALS TO A PROXY ON BEHALF OF A FACULTY MEMBER.

To find the proxy account from the Loan Tab, search the patron list by the proxy's name (last name, first name) and then select the barcode that includes the faculty member's last name.

For example, if Nick Cooper-Kedrick came to the desk to check out materials as a proxy for Prof. Hemingway, you would do a search for Cooper-Kedrick, Nicholas and select the account with the barcode NCK-HEMINGWAY (proxy barcodes are always in the format <proxy initials>-<faculty's last name>).

If you cannot find a proxy account for the person checking out the item, DO NOT CHECK OUT THE ITEM. Offer to put it on the temporary holds shelves and tell the proxy-to-be to have the faculty member email us to authorize the transaction. If the proxy-to-be is adamant about taking the book, check it out to the proxy-to-be's own account and tell him/her to have the faculty member email us to have the item moved to the faculty account.

Checking materials out to the proxy account puts the book on both that account and the faculty member's account and gives us a record of who actually touched the book in case the faculty member ever disputes the checkout.

But be careful! Never use the ILLProxy account. Such accounts come up if you search for the faculty member's name. ILL accounts should never be used for checkouts.
