www.snopes.com is an excellent site for verification of rumors and old wives tales (Are there old men tales?  If so, someone please write the book.) and urban myths.  I get some of my education from there.  I am continually surprised by the things grown men and women believe in that are utterly ridiculous.    Microwaving water kills all the nutrients in it so if you heat water and let it cool then put it on flowers the flowers will die.  Someone actually told me this and they believed it.  I told them water is water and we had to look it up.  Used to be common sense was common but seems to be more uncommon nowadays.  Just to reiterate please verify your information somewhere, anywhere but be sure to not perpetuate those urban myths in your writing and pass on to your readers a heaping pile of smelly stuff that you are trying to pass off as truth.
