Upcoming Assessments: Math 7 SOL Test (Tues. 5/5)
Greetings! I'm getting this email out early as I'm doing updates on grades this afternoon. If you log into ParentVUE and check grades now, you will see that while the SOL review materials are not officially due until Monday, I've updated those grades with what has already been turned in at this point. There are several reasons for this. First and foremost, with our SOL test taking place on Tuesday, it's my hope that students use at least some of their free time this weekend to continue their preparation and review for the Math 7 SOL. Secondly, I've had too many students not taking this review seriously and while we've been working on the various review packets since we came back from spring break four weeks ago, some students have turned in none of the work at this point. As the packets and online SOL review work are all grades, this has put some of the students at risk of failing. Since the grade book is still showing them a passing grade, they do not see the academic danger they've put themselves in by not completing their work.
As previously stated, I'll be completing additional grade updates this afternoon, so whatever you see in the grade book by this evening will reflect all the work your child has submitted/turned into me through today. All of the Topic 16 grades are being done for completion, so if you see anything below a 100%, it means your child still has missing/incomplete work. Please help me by encouraging your child to complete as much as possible prior to testing on Tuesday, May 5th. I will freely admit it is quite a bit of work (it is after all reviewing the entire year's curriculum), so I will of course continue accepting work through the term's deadline (reminder that it is Friday, May 22nd for this final term), but it will not help with their preparation for the SOL test.
We'll be doing our final bit of review this Monday, but then students will go directly to their testing locations Tuesday morning. Please help us ensure that your child has their charged Chromebook that day and gets to school on time. Students arriving after testing starts will be sent to an alternate location (I believe the health classrooms) to work on alternate assignments and will have to make up the SOL another day (first day of math make-up testing is Friday, May 8th).
That should cover the major concerns and the highlights of the week, but as always please feel free to reach out with any questions. Just a reminder that I do not respond to emails outside of working hours in efforts to establish a more healthy work/life balance, but I will get back to you on Monday. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
