Greetings! I hope everyone has had an amazing week! With the initial round of SOL testing done, we spent the week predominately working to improve final grades and I'm so proud of those students who have pushed themselves with this. While students technically have through tonight to finish up their final week of JLab, I went ahead and updated those grades so that everyone can know where they currently stand both for the term as well as for the year. At this moment, the grades you see on Tyler are what students can expect for the final report card if they don't do anything else; grades can only go up from here and there's no chance of their grades dropping for my class at this point. It doesn't appear that year grades are currently showing for students and parents/guardians, but you can find the current final year grade by averaging the two semesters (add them and divide by two); a 59.5% or higher is considered a passing grade.
I've spoken directly with all the parents/guardians of students currently at risk of failing for the year, so if you haven't heard from me directly, you can safely take that as a sign that your child has passed for the year! That being said, students still have until next Friday, June 9th to work on assignments to further boost their grades and for those few who currently are at risk of failing, they can most definitely still turn their grades around and pass for the year. Students can still complete test corrections, their second attempt on quizzes, additional attempts on formative checks, complete/redo JLabs, and even complete the Math 8 Vocabulary Review for extra credit.
For students who are finished with everything, they were encouraged to check on their grades in other classes to see if they could improve upon those and were in turn permitted to work on that as long as their grade is in good standing for math. There are a few students who have everything completed for all classes and while I'd hoped we could start the Banzai math work I've previously mentioned, the site has been automatically blocked for students (the games included got it defaulted to an "entertainment" site rather than "education") and while I've been promised it will be unblocked, we have to wait until Monday for that to happen. In the meantime, those with no outstanding work for any class had some review worksheets to work on for the time being.
That should cover everything for this week, so I'll close things out here. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
