Greetings! This week's update will also be a pretty quick one since I'm running "auntie's taxi service" this afternoon for my niece. As mentioned in my last update, we worked on wrapping up our work with the first two units and reviewing on Monday before taking the first quiz on Tuesday. Those grades are already in the gradebook, but unfortunately it's taking me a little more time to get the assignments graded due to the varied schedules this week due to MAP testing and the specialty centers assembly, which resulted in shortened planning blocks for me. I'm hoping to get caught up again by Tuesday (the next quiz day) if not sooner. From first looks, everything is looking alright and no one should be worried about grades at this point, though kids with lower quizzes scores should take advantage of the opportunity to do corrections once I get their quiz papers passed back.
The rest of the week was spent working with the real number system. As has now become standard procedure for my class, we started with our "math story time" which this time included props in the form a Russian stacking doll (aka matryoshka) to help explain how a nested Venn diagram works. The kids seem to have enjoyed the work (but that's in part due to our general goofiness in class... whatever it takes to keep them entertained and engaged!) and they already seem to have a solid understanding of the topic. Again, with altered schedules for three of the five days, we're at different points in each class, so we'll wrap things up on Monday and work on two new assignments before taking the quiz on Tuesday.
Well, based on my niece's fidgeting, it's time for Aunt Kimmie to wrap things up and take off for the weekend. As always, feel free to email if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!
