Hello, folks! My home internet service is currently out (yet somehow the Xfinity WiFi that is part of the same network is still working in my area?), so I'm working on a weak signal right now and will try to keep this short in order to get it out and get the rest of my tech work done before I lose the signal.
As mentioned in the last update, the week started with reviewing everything covered thus far in the term and then taking the midterm, which was graded as a formative assessment as it we'd originally planned not to have a midterm. The MSM2 results were mixed, some great and unfortunately some not so great. Those not so great tests were mostly from students still not taking the time to show their work and use the strategies I've given them in class, so I ask that parents please help me by pushing the kids to give 100% effort and to use the strategies provided in class. The 7H class overall did so well that they've actually been begging that I'll make the test summative after all. I still have a few needing to wrap it up (some due to tech issues with the sign-in system and others due to a field trip that pulled some of the kids from class), so I'm not completely set on making it summative yet, but I'm currently leaning towards that now but allowing "free" (meaning no Liberty/Lambie Points required) corrections for the few who didn't perform as well as they'd hoped.
The rest of the week was spent on new topics that will carry over into this week. The MSM2 students are currently working on surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders while the 7H students are working on composite figures. The first little bit was a little tricky for everyone as they were having trouble breaking down the shapes for their different topics, but everyone was starting to feel a little more comfortable by the end. We'll be picking back up tomorrow (or whenever we're next in school... I'm not placing any bets on Virginia weather at this point).
Well, I'm going to close this out here and try to get some more school work done before everyone else in the area jumps on the only available WiFI and further slows down the connection. As always, please feel free to email if you have any questions. Hope everyone has a great week!
