We're almost there, folks! Just two weeks to go! With initial SOL testing finished, we can now have a little more fun with math. Well, that is after the county posttest was finished. Aside from the posttest, the week was devoted to the coding project. With Chromebooks being collected this coming Tuesday, June 6th, I'm not sure if we'll have time to finish all of the coding, so any grade for this will likely be for effort versus completion. We'll continue working on the project tomorrow and hopefully we'll be able to get some computer lab time to finish any remaining parts. I would like to encourage the kids to continue working on it at home if they have the means to do so and possibly even check out some of the other programs on Code.org and similar sites (ex. Khan Academy, Google's Made with Code, Gamestar Mechanic). As I've told the kids, there are so many opportunities and directions they could take a career in computer science, so if they have any interest at all in it, they should definitely continue to give it a try.
There will not be many grades after this point, so the grades on ParentVUE/StudentVUE are most likely what can be expected on the final report card. However, students can still work to bring the old grades up. There were some students who still haven't finished the Vocabulary.com assignment and/or their required IXL.com time are encouraged to do so. I'll be allowing these students will be allowed to work on these assignments tomorrow instead of the coding project. Students can also work on completing an error analysis on any of their term 4 formative assessments (summatives are permitted with the use of Liberty or Lambie Points).
Students who will be retaking the SOL test on Tuesday, June 6th, should continue to study and review tonight and tomorrow on the focus areas I gave them, but it is even more important that they get a good night's sleep and a filling breakfast before testing. They will be reporting immediately to Lab 819 the morning of the retake. If they haven't returned a signed letter for their retake by tomorrow morning, guidance counselors will be calling to get a verbal confirmation whether permission is given.
Let's finish the year strong, kids, staying on top of everything from work to behavior in all of our classes. I hope everyone has a great week!
