Greetings! We just officially wrapped up the third marking period and we're that much closer to the finish line! While I'm going to do another spot-check of grades to make sure I didn't miss anything, those you see on Tyler are most likely final and what you will see as the report card grade for this term. Depending on when you last checked, you will likely see that your child's grade went up as I'm happy and proud to say that most students really utilized the extra catch-up days I was able to work into the start of our week (as mentioned in my last update). They also took that mindset into the second half of the week, which entailed our final benchmark test, which will be the first grade of the final term.
You might be surprised to hear that most students were excited for this test, but that's because I told them I'd be doing this test with them the same way I did the last quiz with them before the break. While this is atypical for a test, I felt the pros far outweighed the cons in taking this approach. I think that many kids got into a bit of a slump during the 3rd marking period since the first score for that was the previous benchmark test and if that score was low, it set a negative tone for them that followed some the whole term long. My hope (which their positive mindsets provide evidence that supports that hope) is that students will take the same energy they brought to this test into the rest of the work we do for the final marking period. Their positive outlook was seen through their attention, the taking of detailed notes, and their eagerness to do well. A student's mindset has such a huge impact on their potential success, so I'm pushing to keep them as positive as possible for the last nine weeks of the year.
While we unfortunately didn't make it through the entire test in any class, we did finish around 20 of the 25 questions together. The students have been asked to finish the final questions as part of their homework, but I'm going to try to work in the final questions into the end of classes next week and anyone who missed and/or for those students needing extra help, I'll be able to utilize the new "ETEH" time that is being worked into the school's daily schedule to work with those students. "ETEH" stand for "Extra Time, Extra Help" and is part of an update the school shared families today and it will definitely be a big help with being able to give additional support to students to ensure they finish the year strong.
I have to wrap things up here since I have to get to one of my niece's games in Chester soon (assuming it's not been rained out) but as always, please let me know if you have any questions. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
