And that's a wrap! Well, almost... I'm sending this earlier in the day because I want all the kids to read it before we officially wrap up the school year. It's been one crazy year, but we've made it through! As crazy as the year (which I think we can measure in "dog years"... we did have at least 7 "first days of school," right?) has been, it's been pretty amazing nonetheless. We've all grown and learned in ways we never expected. All the tech issues, all the emotions, everything that has been thrown our way... we've adapted and overcome so much together. These kids have been amazing and while there have undoubtedly been struggles for all of us along the way, remind yourselves that you've accomplished something this year that has never been done before. "Survived virtual learning through a pandemic" is not something most folks can say they've done, so kids be proud of yourselves! I'm most certainly proud of you all and I'm sure your parents and guardians feel the same way. Speaking of your grownups, thank you parents and guardians for all of your help and support! We couldn't have done it without you!!!
If there's anything you aren't 100% happy with from this year, then take those things as lessons learned for the future and grow from them. Remember what I've said all year... "mistakes are only bad if you don't work to correct them and learn from them." (And yes, I know some of you have entire lists of my quotes from throughout this year, but I think that one is the most important.) I always reflect each year on things I want to change for the future, so this year has definitely given me lots to think about (though I have no problems admitting that I'm hoping to never deal with hybrid teaching again!) and I know I learn just as much, if not more, from the kids as they do from me, so there's plenty I'll be taking with me from this school year. I hope you all feel the same.
Remember that the grades in the gradebook are only a small snapshot of this school year and there are so many things they don't show. They don't show your compassion for others. They don't show the vast majority of your many unique talents. They don't show how absolutely hilarious you all are (we've had some good laughs this year, haven't we?). They don't show how absolutely amazing you all are!!!
Please also remember that once you've been in my class, you're my kid for life! Keep in touch and let me know how you're doing. I want to hear about high school, graduation, and what plans you have for the future. I expect great things from you all and I can't wait to see where the future takes you!
Most importantly, remember that I love you all! I wish you the very best, most relaxing summer ever... you've earned it! Hope to see you next school year!!!
