Upcoming Assessments: SUM Quiz 13 Data Cycle with Circle Graphs (Mon. 4/14)
Good afternoon! I hope everyone had an amazing spring break! Let's get straight into this week's math happenings. We started the week as promised by catching up on things from before the break, such as the circles quiz. There are still some students who have to take care of that along with other missing tasks, so I'd like to request that families help out by checking grades on ParentVUE and talking with kids about completing their missing work.
Because of deadlines from the school that were just given for the required post-test, we had to also squeeze that in this week and students had all of Tuesday to complete it. Because of timing, I can't give any additional days for it, but I did get permission to skip next week's ALEKS PMA to allow students to have that time at the beginning of class to work on it (note, they still had this week's PMA as it was previously scheduled). This is a graded assessment and while students will get the afore mentioned time next week to complete it, you will see that it is already listed as "Missing" in the gradebook if they haven't yet completed it.
The rest of the week was spent covering the first of our statistics units, which also happens to be the second to last unit for the year. Students were introduced to circle graphs officially for the first time this year, though most have seen them before in some aspect before now. They've learned how to analyze and create circle graphs, compare them to other types of graphs, formulate questions that require the collection of data, determine the data needed to answer a formulated question and collect the data using various methods, and determine the factors that will ensure that the data collected is a sample of a larger population We wrapped up the instruction for this unit today and will take that quiz on Monday.
That should cover the highlights but as always, please feel free to email if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!
