Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and has had a wonderful start to the new year! I've got a ton of errands to run this afternoon, so I'm going to keep this update short and sweet. I eased us back into the swing of things with a catch up day the first day back and I'm extra proud of all those who took advantage of the opportunity and worked to improve their grades. That being said, most students still have things they can/should complete in order to improve their grades. For all work from before winter break, students only have through midnight tonight to complete them through Canvas before the assignments lock; additionally, I'll take any papers they complete over the weekend at the start of each block on Monday. Students will have all of Monday to complete/correct/retake any of the work from this week, including today's quiz.
In regards to this week's work, we continued and wrapped up the topic/unit we started before the break. Yesterday, I worked through the entire formative check with the kids both to reinforce what we learned for the unit as well as to continue practicing test taking strategies and to show the kids how to properly show work on paper for digital assignments as it's something they've been struggling with. Please note that if you see your child did not make a 100% on that assessment, that indicates they did not fully pay attention as all answers were given during class. For today's summative assessment, I then allowed the students to use that paper (which I had them include extra notes on) along with all their other papers from this unit to help them through the assessment. Students were given the entire block, but some still haven't finished and we had a lot of absences today, so I'm encouraging all the kids to finish over the weekend so that they can complete corrections and retake it as needed on Monday.
Grades have been updated at this point as they always are at the end of each school day, so if you and/or your child is unsatisfied with where they currently stand, they deadline allowing them to improve it is quickly approaching (midnight tonight for anything before winter break, midnight Monday for the three grades from this week).
That should cover the highlights, but please feel free to email if you have any questions, though again I want to remind everyone that I generally do not respond to emails outside of working hours in efforts to establish a more healthy work/life balance. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
