Happy St. Patrick's Day! I'm sending this out a day early since today marks the last chance for kids to improve upon their grades. They can still complete missing ALEKS topics and/or complete the JLab extra credit opportunity (details posted on the announcements of the class Canvas page) through tonight. I will do another check for any final submissions prior to sending grades tomorrow, so please help me by encouraging the kids to take advantage of this chance to finish strong!
Again, all the work for the last unit we finished this week (22 Surface Area & Volume) is going onto the final term to allow for make up work as needed. This will definitely come in handy as there are a few kids with one or more items missing for the unit, so I'd like to ask that those kids make up that work tomorrow during their extra day off; the grades thus far for the last unit include a formative check (Unit 22), two BrainPOP quizzes (Surface Area and Volume of Cylinders), and the quiz (4.02). We've also gotten a start on the final topic, which included another BrainPOP quiz (Transformations) that some kids still haven't submitted.
I've basically just recapped the week already, but to further clarify, we finalized all of our work with surface area and volume and I'm happy to say that most of the kids completely ROCKED the test! Unfortunately, not everyone did great but those students who didn't do so well have also been putting in less effort lately on the work yet more attention on their Chromebooks, which sadly doesn't include their work. For this reason, we're going to close Chromebooks for the whole upcoming unit as we don't even need the calculators for it, so going 100% paper will not be hindered by that. Once the unit wraps up and we get into our SOL review materials, I'll be setting up focused Hapara sessions to ensure kids stick to the calculator and don't go "wandering off" electronically, but I would also appreciate parents/guardians chatting with the kiddos about the importance of putting their focus into their work and buckling down as we approach the final stretch.
Before I close this out, I want to thank all the folks who helped out by sending in snacks this week. It was greatly appreciated by the kids and I'm eternally grateful for the help! Pretty much everything has been gobbled up other than about a cup and a half of Cheerios at this point, so if folks are still feeling generous and would like to help, we'd still appreciate any donations you might want to send in for the kids. Well that should do it, so I'm going to wrap this up and wish everyone an amazing weekend!
