Greetings! I'm sending this out early and on the short side since I'm on "official auntie duty" this weekend since my sister and brother-in-law had to go out of town and of course my nieces and nephew all have jam-packed schedules of their own (side note... come out and see TDHS's production of "Radium Girls" this weekend if you have a chance! one of my nieces is in it, so I'm a little biased, but I think it's an amazing show!).
The week started the same way we finished last week, with massive amounts of algebraic inequality work. As I told the kids, I think this is probably one of the hardest units we cover throughout the year. The difficulty isn't necessarily in the basic computation itself (though that has it's difficult areas at well sometimes) so much as in how the questions can be asked on an assessment, so we spent some extra time picking apart "SOL like" questions and tricks on how to tackle them. The end of the week was spent beginning our work with relations and functions. As I told the kids, it can at first seem like it might be harder than our equations and inequalities work since we're now throwing in an extra variable, but it's generally a lot easier overall as it's predominantly substitution work. The trickiest stuff in this unit is keeping the vocabulary straight, so I've got a few extra charts on the board and a big set of Word Wall cards up to help drive home the vocab part of the work. We'll continue this unit the little bit of time we're in school next week and pick it up again after the break, so the kids have plenty of time to nail down the terminology by the time we get to the quiz.
Well, there's the "Cliff Notes" version of the week. This is probably the shortest one I've sent so far, so I feel like I might be leaving stuff out, but I want to make sure I've got plenty of time to get grades updated since I know there won't be much time this weekend while I'm on "official auntie duty." If you do have any questions, feel free to send them my way, but please be aware that you probably won't hear back from me until Monday. Hope you all have an amazing weekend of your own!
