Greetings! This is going out a day early since I'm thankfully able to attend the TDHS graduation tomorrow morning. My oldest niece is part of the graduating class, but I'm thrilled to also be able to watch some of my former students walk the stage and accept their diplomas, which is a first for this middle school teacher. I've had former students come back to visit or send me messages over the years, but I've not had a chance to watch any of them graduate before, so I'm hoping the district will consider live streaming graduations in the years to come. I'm leaving the link for the substitute to share the graduation ceremony with the kids so they can get a preview of what they've been working so hard for and will get to experience in just five more years!
The kids will also be asked to wrap up their Math Art Gallery work and to wrap up all other graded work as the last day to turn anything in for credit is Monday, June 14th since I have to send grades the next day. This means that the kids can still take advantage of the second attempt on any quizzes from this term, complete quiz corrections for anything still wrong after the second attempt, turn in any missing/incomplete assignments, or submit the ALEKS extra credit through Monday night. I'll be available to help with any final questions Monday of course, but I encourage the kids to send emails over the weekend as well and I'll do my best to answer as soon as possible but at the very least will be prepared to answer during classes on Monday.
Since we'll be winding down next week, we'll be attempting to wrap up with some of my usual end-of-the-year activities. I say attempt since the main activity is normally origami art, but I'm not sure how easy that will be for the virtual learners. I've included some YouTube videos in the modules just in case, but I'm not even sure if they'll play for the students on their school devices (some YT videos work, some are blocked), so we'll have to see how it goes. Students can use any paper for the origami, but if folks would like to send in any colorful paper (actual origami paper, colorful printer paper, gift wrap, even sticky notes), it would be greatly appreciated. If virtual students need paper, I can get some plain printer paper (which can always be decorated using colored pencils, markers, etc.), then just let me know.
I'm still working on packing up my classroom, so I'll wrap things up here. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
