Happy Friday, folks! Before we get into this week's math happenings, I wanted to thank all the folks (students, families, and the EDMS PTA as a whole) for making this Teacher Appreciation Week so amazing. Thank you!!! I also want to wish all my fellow teachers a "Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!" Thank you for all the incredible work I know you're doing in your classrooms!
We've officially made it to the final stretch of what we in the education world refer to as "SOL Season." The kids all took their Reading SOL test in their 1st block classes on Thursday to launch us off! I'm sure you'll be hearing from the kids' English teachers and/or the school regarding results when they become available. The testing day did cut into our math review time however, so I requested that the kids in my 1st and 2nd block classes complete their formative checks a day early to compensate. Unfortunately not all students did, so we weren't able to go over the entire check together in either of those classes, so I encourage any students still confused on any particular questions to reach out if they have any questions. If possible we'll go over those on Monday if time permits, but we'll be practicing and reviewing strategies within the actual testing application using the state's provided practice items first, so it all depends on how much time we have.
They'll still be able to get help and work on finalizing their grades after the test obviously, but it would obviously be preferable prior so that they're taking that knowledge into the SOL with them. To continue that train of thought, all pre-SOL work including the extra credit is officially due by the end of the day on Monday (5/9) for the same reason, but again they'll still have time to turn those things in and improve upon their final grades through Friday, May 27th. We'll be starting some fun end-of-the-year projects next Thursday, but I'll give them a little break on Wednesday first. That being said, please encourage the kiddos to review their materials over the weekend and Monday night if schedules permit.
That should cover everything and I've got to try to catch a few folks before they head out for the weekend (plus, I have the TDHS production of The Little Mermaid to get to later this evening!), so I'm going to wrap things up here but as always, please reach out if you have any questions. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
