Greetings all! The kids have all made it through their first round of SOL testing with their language arts classes and in math we've made it through yet another week of test prep. We finished up the last of the review packet we'd been working on together in class and the kids should be finishing up the final bits of the homework review packet. On Monday the kids have the final of the county's five SOL quizzes (the equivalent of one SOL practice test); while they are quizzing, I'll grade their review folders for the last bit of work and any make-up work for previously missing portions. The kids should also have their Vocab.com math assignment complete by the end of the day tomorrow, but I encourage the kids to continue working on improving their mastery of the list.
With our math SOLs taking place this week, kids should remember to get a good night's prior to the test and have a good breakfast the morning of the test. Studying can be beneficial, however trying to review an entire year's worth of material the night before is generally overwhelming and can even lead to confusion and second guessing. Instead I encourage students to continue with the vocabulary review (especially since most students are solid on the math but get tripped up by the wording) and to review the Smart Charts (copies can be found in the kids' review folders as well as the digital folders).
I have faith in all the kids and I'd like to remind them all that they KNOW the math, so don't second guess yourself. Pace yourself during the test, carefully read through everything, use all your strategies, and show your work. YOU GOT THIS!
