SOLs Covered: see the SOL Pass Review calendar for each day's topic
Math Unit: 15 SOL Review Materials
Daily Agenda: May 5-9, 2025
Upcoming Assessments: Math 6 SOL Test (Tues. 5/13)
Deadline: All grades for math class will close on Friday, 5/23 at midnight; items must be submitted prior to that
Good afternoon! This week is essentially more of the same from what I've shared the past two weeks (Week 33 and Week 34), though things were broken up a bit by morning testing for reading on Monday and science on Thursday. While we've contacted all the parents/guardians for students who are at risk of failing either just for the marking period or for the year as a whole, I do still ask that families check ParentVUE and talk with students about what can be done to improve grades. I'd like to remind everyone that students get a second attempt at all assessments and are allowed to use their notes and ask questions for that attempt. They can also complete anything still missing and are encouraged try all of the extra credit (there were four total this term). This is also a reminder that all grades will be closed (meaning no additional attempts can be done nor can missing items be submitted) on Friday, May 23rd at midnight. That being said, we were informed at the faculty meeting this week that Chromebooks will be collected during 4th block on the day before (Thurs. 5/22) and that the HelpDesk will no longer be available after today, May 9th.
The only additional piece of information that differs from the previous weeks is that we started reviewing the practice items provided by the state directly on the TestNav application (located under the sign in button, no login required). Students have already done these questions as part of the practice SOL test they completed earlier in the term, but that was on Canvas via Mastery Connect. With this practice, we also discuss test taking strategies specifically for each question type and practice using the online tools. Most students generally have a strong enough grasp of the math topic itself, but the way things are done on an SOL test greatly vary from how you would approach the question in real life, so this has always been a critical component of my review time with the kids since we transitioned to online testing. We'll continue this practice on Monday and address any final questions as well as discussing what to do the night before their math SOL test, which takes place on Tuesday, May 13th. Students are encouraged to review this weekend, but I would much rather them hold off on reviewing the night before but instead do what I consider the basics of preparing for any tests: charge your Chromebook and pack your charger just in case, go to bed early, have a filling breakfast the next morning (either at home or the one provided by the school), and get to school on time.
That should cover everything but as always, please feel free to email if you have any questions or concerns. We're down to just three little weeks left in the school year! Have a great weekend!
