Hello folks! First I'd like to start by thanking all the folks who sent in pencils this week. The pencil dispenser is full and there are even extras that I'll be saving for SOLs, so I'm hopeful we'll have enough to make it through to the end of the year. Thanks for all the help folks! Also a huge thanks to all the folks who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week so awesome! The treats provided by PTA and those brought in by a few students were delicious.
It's been another week of busy SOL review and things aren't much different than what was sent out in last week's updates aside from the topics covered. However in addition to the review and our second SOL quiz, we also took the SOL practice test. As I told the kids, it's not a perfect match up to the SOL test since we will now have an adaptive test (the CAT SOL) and it's not given as a grade, but it does help give an idea as to which topics each student should focus their own individual study time. There are some students who did not finish do to being out today for the band field trip; at this point those students will likely need to finish during SOAR or even stay after school since the date of the actual SOL test is quickly approaching.
Finally, I'll be offering my final planned tutoring session on Thursday next week. The following week we'll be taking the test, so I'm pretty sure we'll all need a break from math by the afternoon. After that, the final weeks of school we'll be working on various projects (all fun, so no groaning from the kids!) that I couldn't work in during regular lessons due to the focus on SOLs. If individuals end up needing some extra time after school, I'll be happy to make arrangements with those students as needed.
I hope everyone enjoys the weekend! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!
