And that's a wrap! It's been an awesome year and these kids have been amazing, but I'm definitely thrilled to be heading into break!
We had another fun week, at least I thought it was fun and the kids seemed to agree. After wrapping up the math art gallery on Monday, we spent Tuesday and Wednesday exploring the math behind the set designs for American Ninja Warrior. The kids got to watch a few runs on the show as well as their "Crashing the Course" web series, identifying the math utilized to design the obstacles. I was honestly proud and it almost (literally) brought a tear to my eye to have the kids immediately calling out the math they could spot! The kids then got to design a few of their own obstacles (some even did full courses), labeling the math that would be needed to build it as well as describing how the course would work. A few examples can be found on my class Instagram and Twitter accounts. On Thursday, we had our 7th grade award ceremony. I'm so proud of all the kids and wish we weren't limited on the number of awards we could give out as I definitely wish I could recognize a few more students for their "above and beyond" work, attitude, and behavior, but all the award winners more than earned their recognition for being shining stars in 7th grade this year! Today for the final day of school, I'd planned for us to do a bit of origami but the kids have become invested in the ANW contestants and wanted to continue with that, so as we enjoyed a final treat of donuts, we watched a little more and just chatted about the year, summer plans, and hopes for the future.
I've been truly blessed with this group of kids and will be sad to see them leave, but I cannot wait to see what their futures hold! I hope they check in with their old 7th grade math teacher in the future to let me know how they've been doing. All of my digital resources are open on the web, so they are welcome to use those if the need arises. If they need recommendations for specialty centers next year or colleges in the future, I'm just an email away!
Best of luck next year and have a great summer!!!
