Greetings! Before I get into this week's math happenings, I wanted to share some news that the kids might have already passed along. I could no longer evade their questions about why the classroom was slowly emptying of all the stuff, so I shared that I was offered and had accepted a job in Prince George County Public Schools. It was definitely a difficult decision to make and the kids didn't make it any easier (especially when some started trying to negotiate or come up with reasons why I couldn't leave), but it was an opportunity I could pass up. Not only have I spent my entire career in CCPS, but most of my own education took place here aside from the few years of college (and even parts of that I was still in CCPS in some capacity between practicums and substitute teaching prior to graduation), so I feel like getting experience in another school system will continue to push me to learn myself and to work on further improving my craft.
While I'll no longer be a Raven myself, I will always see these kids as at least little bit my own so I will continue to be here to offer support if called upon. If students need recommendations for programs next year, I'm happy to provide them (I'm not entirely sure if the CCPS specialty center recommendations can be completed by a non-CCPS employee but if it's allowed, I'm happy to complete those). If folks want to reach out for resources, I'll still be available. If, as a couple kids have requested, they still need their regular "therapy sessions," I'm still here for that as well (**disclaimer** I'm definitely not a registered therapist, but I've always been here if the kids needed to vent or have a shoulder to cry on--sometimes literally--and apparently some of the kids have been referring to that as their "therapy sessions" LOL!). To help with these things, I wanted to share my new already-active school email address (klambert@pgs.k12.va.us) and my linkree (linktr.ee/mslambiemath), which has been updated with my migrated class website, though be warned that it's a work in progress and that many links will not immediately work as I have to update the new links of my also migrated Google Drive. If there's anything I can do to help in the future, I'll still be available, just in another location on the other side of the river.
Now in regards to math, the week was pretty much devoted to going through the entire coding program together to get all the bits the kids might have needed help on. It ended up taking longer than I thought, so I scrapped the "Math Art Gallery" as a graded project at least, though we might still work on that just for the fun of it next week (and before the kids start rolling their eyes, yes, I think it should be at least a little fun!). The extra time for the coding was well worth it though to here the cries of joy when the kids when get a new part of their games working each time we advanced. With SOL retakes going on this week along with the usual absences, there are kids that still need a little more time to work, so they can continue to work on the coding over the weekend and I'll update their grades to reflect that on Tuesday. The kids have all been warned though that they are responsible for ensuring that the backstory and cover art components (half of the overall project grade) must be completed by midnight tonight; I'm not being super picky about either piece aside from requiring that they are done and that the story is at least a paragraph, so it's the easiest portion and was honestly meant to be some easy points.
Well, I need to wrap this up now as I've just heard from my dad, who is on his way to help me get a few of the bigger classroom items that won't fit in my car (like my "fancy" teacher chair) moved out but as always, please reach out if you have any questions. Hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
