Greetings and happy Valentine's Day! Well, it's been another crazy, wintery week, so I don't have much in the way of updates this week. Due to the additional snow days, we've obviously had to push the current unit into next week. Additionally, the other math teachers are a little behind with their classes due to their own absences. Since they need a few extra days to catch up themselves, we (Mrs. Lee and I) have taken this opportunity to help students catch up on work from absences as well as draw out our practice with this introduction to algebra.
I'm actually really happy about this as someone who's taught the upper middle grades since I know how much this will benefit them in the long run. With so much of their future secondary math work depending on this foundation to the topic, I feel like my students will have a much stronger foundation to build on in the future. It ideally wouldn't be broken up every couple of days with days off (be it unexpected snow days or regular weekends/holidays), but I am already seeing a more solid understanding. We'll continue our work at the beginning of next week and hopefully (barring yet another blast of winter weather) be able to assess on Thursday.
Before I close out, I just want to remind folks that we are off on Monday, but I would also like to request that parents/guardians encourage students to work on catching up on any missing work. Between student absences and (unfortunately) student choice, there are quiet a few missing assignments, but everything for my class can still be made up. I'll be updating grades after sending this, so by 6:30PM tonight, you should see the most recent grades for all students. As always, please feel free to email if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!
