Good afternoon! Today's update is coming out early as my oldest niece is getting married tomorrow and we've got her rehearsal and final prep tonight, so I basically have to head out with the kids this afternoon. We officially finished all new topics with the closing of our final unit last week, so we started our SOL review this week. Monday and Tuesday were predominately used for an SOL practice test. This is being used as a grade, though not a "normal" test grade; it is instead being included in the formative category and being graded in a similar manner as ALEKS grades have been done (0-25% = 50% in the gradebook, 26-50% = 70%, 51-75% = 90%, 76-100% = 100%). At this point, there are still a lot of students who haven't completed and they've been told to finish it as homework now as we have to continue with our SOL review during class; please help us by encouraging them to work on this and any other missing work. The test was completed in Mastery Connect via Canvas (located in the Unit 15 module), but we'll start going over those next week in the TestNav app where we can also discuss how to best utilize the tools that available during testing.
Students have also been given three separate assignments that will be graded at the end of the review. The first is a digital assignment (15.01) where the students will click on the provided link each day, complete the task, then insert a screenshot of their results for that day. They are also receiving daily paper packets that combine the other two assignments (15.02 and 15.03) for the SOL topic being covered that day; as these packets haven't been separated electronically, the pages are listed on the Daily Agenda each day for students who might be absent but trying to keep up (papers will be given to them upon their return). I'm keeping track of what each student has accomplished each day on my own paper checklist in class and will post their grades starting May 12th, which is the day prior to our math SOL test.
That should cover all the key elements but as always, please feel free to email if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!
