Salutations! I'm going to keep this post rather quick since I'm just as eager as the kids to start spring break! However before getting into the weekly happenings, I wanted to make sure everyone knew that students received their spring pictures today (Friday, April 7th) and that payments and/or unwanted pictures should be returned through math classes (payments can also be made online through the Strawbridge Studios website). There's payment information included in the packet, but I made note of the information, so feel free to email me if it gets lost along the way; if I don't know the answer, I should at least be able to point you in the right direction. Students absent today will receive their pictures upon our return to school after break. Now onto the math!
The honors class wrapped up their work on probability Monday before we took the quiz together as a class on Tuesday. I mentioned in last week's update that the "in-house" quizzes (i.e. the quizzes made by myself and the other EDMS math teachers) would be completed this way for various reasons. This will not be done for any tests or county/state assessments, but it's my hope that the extra review of test taking strategies will improve scores on these future assessments. We reviewed for the test on Wednesday before the kids took said test on Thursday and Friday. During spare moments, we played a little SKUNK, a dice game that allows students to have a bit of fun while thinking about the probability of what the next roll of the dice might bring. It's a simple game that might be a fun family activity folks can try over spring break!
The MSM2 students wrapped up their work on sequences before the quiz (also taken together as a class). The kids seemed to really enjoy this unit as most took to the topic quickly and it was great seeing the students' confidence in their math skills grow! We then moved onto probability, my favorite math topic! Since the topic is being broken up by spring break, the probability work from this week is mostly review of what was covered last year. We'll review these basics upon our return before getting into the trickier topics of independent and dependent events.
Well, I'm going to wrap things up here. I hope everyone enjoys the break and the holidays for those who celebrate them! Make sure you rest up over break as we'll be in "testing season" upon our return.
