Howdy, folks! As the kids can tell you, I've not been feeling the greatest this week, so I'll keep this short and sweet, but if you find yourself with questions after, please feel free to email.
With the fresh start of a new week, we started our first math units. After setting up their math notebooks, we started the week with a review of the integer work they did in sixth grade, moving onto a review of perfect squares, and wrapping up with an introduction to imperfect squares. We've gotten a bit silly with it and I started "math story time" for each unit. Ask them about the dark path that -2 was walking down and who could help him return to a brighter, more positive path or ask about those supposedly "perfect" squares and how the poor little "imperfect" squares live in their shadows.
I feel like things were a bit rushed today (Friday 9/13) and maybe the teacher myths about the affects of Friday the 13th and full moons hold true, but after a little thought I've decided to push the quiz I told the kids about from Monday to Tuesday to give us a little more review time before the first assessment. All work for the two units should still be finished by Monday as previously planned so that students can be ready with any final questions as soon as they get to class.
I should have mentioned in my first update that all work for any unit (whether it's the math notebook, a digital assignment, or a separate paper assignment) is due on the scheduled quiz/test day for that unit. The kids have already heard this in class several times now, but I know parents and guardians like to know what to expect regarding due dates and such. That being said, students still have a chance to turn in their work late using either of the class point systems (click here for additional information), but students should definitely not make a habit of it.
That should cover all the highlights of the week, so I'm going to wrap things up here. As always, feel free to email if you have any questions. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
