Howdy! Sorry this is coming out so late, but it's been a crazy busy week. I may or may not still be plugging away at everything at school (Canvas is just as much a pain for teachers as it is for kids!), so this is going to be super, super fast. After a quick review of the order of operations, we jump started our algebra work, which will carry over into the next term. This week it was just evaluating expressions (AKA substitution), so nothing too complex yet. While I showed the kids the "old school" way of evaluating expressions, we spent quite a bit of time going over how to efficiently use the Desmos calculator. Most of the questions I've gotten from kids throughout the week has shown me that some kids are kind of just doing their own thing, ignoring what I've shown in class. I'd appreciate an assist in reminding the kids that if the teacher is showing you how to do something, you should maybe try it her way before making up your own method.
While I haven't checked late submissions since about 3PM today so there will hopefully be new work for me to grade, what you see on ParentVUE/StudentVUE is what you can expect on the report card for the first term as I'm wrapping up grades with this week's work. I will still take late work throughout all of next week, but everything absolutely has to be submitted by the end of school (2:30PM) on Friday, October 30th. There is currently an extra credit opportunity available on ALEKS, so that along with turning in missing/incomplete work and quiz corrections can help give kids a final boost to their overall grade. All grades for new assignments next week will be on the Term 2 report card.
Well, my stomach is angry at me for working so far past dinner, so I'm going to wrap things up here. Hopefully this all made sense (I cranked it out pretty fast), but let me know if you have any questions. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
