Howdy! We've made it through SOL testing! After a whole year of lessons and several weeks of additional prep, we have finished the final Math SOL Test! With that being said, the year is not over and we'll still be working through the very end. Fortunately since testing is over (at least for those of us in 7th grade), we can now work on many of the fun activities and projects that can't be worked into the lessons prior to testing. Next week all the kids will be working on their coding PBL, with the Math 7H students finishing the last portions of their project and the MSM2 students just getting started. The week after that (May 31-June 3), the 7H students have a few high school level Algebra I topics that need to be introduced while the MSM2 students wrap up their coding PBL. For the final two weeks of school I have another "mini-project" we'll do on the Chromebooks before they are collected (Wed. 6/8) as well as a few "analog" projects we'll work on after, including an origami activity the kids have asked about since they first noticed the origami pieces around the classroom. The kids have been begging for movies, so I have a couple that might be worked in during that final week, but they'll still have to do some math work to go with them since we do math through the very end. Not only is it school policy, but I feel it's important to show the kids that math is more than just an SOL requirement. Math really can be used outside of the classroom and it can even be fun!
