Howdy! As I'm sure a lot of you are experiencing right now, it's an incredibly busy time of year for me, so let's get straight into things. We started the week with some review of multi-step equations activity to get everyone back into the flow of things after being off for 5 days. It was very much needed since the kids struggled a little at first, but they quickly got it back into the swing of things. We spent the rest of the week working on inequalities, which at first glance is much of the same thing. There is of course a twist with inequalities since there are an infinite number of solutions, which we spent a good bit of time working with each day. The kids did an awesome job with this during the week, but it's crucial they keep this in mind on assessments as it's easy to miss with certain phrasing in problems. Additionally, word problems become more complicated; the kids should slowly work their way through the phrasing of inequality word problems to make sure they don't reverse the symbol and don't miss an equality that might be included. Of course, the week wasn't all "serious" work since we had the Oreo and pretzel stick activity, which the kids absolutely loved! Thank you to all the folks who helped by sending in supplies for the activity! Tomorrow will just be a wrap up and review for the quiz, which was pushed to Tuesday to allow for extra instructional time.
This past week also saw the start of a new warm up routine. The kids are now working on spiral review questions each day via PowerSchool with a quiz grade on Fridays. The Friday quizzes will be composed of questions from the rest of the week's warm ups, so it's an easy 100 A+ if the kids complete the daily assignments each day. I've given them all a composition notebook to keep track of their daily warm ups to make it easier to review their work and so the organization of their regular math notebook doesn't get thrown out of wack.
I'm going to close things out here but as always, feel free to email if you have any questions. Though speaking of emails, I've noticed a high number of parent emails being sent to my spam folder, so if you email any teachers and don't hear back from them in a timely manner (the general school rule is within 24 hours on workdays, but for me it's generally by the end of the school day), then that might be why. So far it's looking like it's just messages sent through ParentVUE or in response to those sent through ParentVUE, which I've reported to Mr. Maynes and the county tech folks, so hopefully they'll come up with a solution to this issue. In the meantime, I'm checking my spam folder more regularly and I've warned my colleagues about the problem.
Hope everyone has an amazing week!
