Upcoming Assessments: SUM Quiz 6 Fraction Operations (Mon. 11/25)
Greetings! It's already nearly 3 hours after school ended and I've still got quite a bit to do before heading home for the day, so let's jump straight into this week's math happenings. It's been a continuation of our work with fractions, wrapping up multiplication before delving into division. It's been slow going as the kids have struggled a bit, but most have put in some incredibly strong effort to understand and they've been very diligent in their work. I've gotten some really good questions from some of the kids, showing both exactly how well they've been paying attention as well as their desire to truly understand the topic. We've spent a ton of time on modeling both topics, which turned a bit frustrating for some of the kids after they were shown the more traditional (aka "old school") way of doing the work, which is just following the steps. Again, both the modeling and steps can be found in the backup notes for this topic if you want to see an example.
Since we spent quite a bit of time on each question, we didn't get quite as many problems completed overall, so the kids have a couple worksheets that we didn't get to in class (some partially, some completely unfinished), but I've published all of those answer keys, which I've tried to make as detailed as possible to aid in their studying this weekend. We'll do a bit of review and answer any final questions the kids may have Monday before they take the quiz and then we'll finish as needed on Tuesday and allow them to take the second attempt in class, which as a reminder we will provide some additional support at that time and allow the use of their notes as well.
I want to add a bit more detail to a couple of the keys to again aid with their studying this weekend, so I'm going to close things out here. As always, please feel free to email if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!
