We've made it half way through the first term, folks! It's been a busy week and I've had a busy weekend so far (homecoming dress shopping with the oldest niece... fun times... kinda?), so let's get straight into the week.
The MSM2 students worked on comparing and ordering real numbers throughout the week. In addition to our regular work for the week, I also walked them through a practice quiz on PowerSchool, our online testing system. As I've stated in previous updates, I found that kids weren't showing their work for their digital assignments and assessments. For this practice quiz, I projected the quiz to the board and walked the kids through all the work and steps they should be following, both on paper and on their Chromebooks. I've also added a submit password to our assessments and now require the kids to show me they're work before they're allowed to submit. While some of the kids still need to finish their quiz on Monday, this has paid off so far with most of the kids who submitted on Friday. One student even came up and said, "you know, it's actually a lot easier when you use the strategies and show your work." I just had to chuckle at that, but I'm so glad to see the kids be rewarded for their hard work.
The 7H kids worked on both identifying and classifying real numbers as well as identifying and using real number properties. The properties are pretty much review at this point (we'll go back to them when we start working on equations), so we put most of our time into the real number system. I gave the kids several digital assignments throughout the week and some have a little catching up to do, so I've worked a bit of make-up/catch-up time into the week as we review for our midterm test.
With this being midterm time, I highly encourage everyone to look at grades (for all classes) on Synergy/ParentVUE. We'll be making phone calls to parents/guardians of students with D/F grades throughout the week. Please help me with encouraging kids to get caught up and to do everything they can to pull up their grades.
