Greetings, folks! I won't take up too much of your holiday weekend time, but I can't not send my usual update just because it's a holiday weekend and we're close to the end of the school year (3 weeks left!). As everyone knows, the week's focus was on final preparation for and then taking the Math SOL test. After giving my first test on Tuesday, I was no longer allowed to review with students in my other MSM2 class since they take the same test, so those students worked together on reviewing Tuesday, using all of my online resources provided throughout the year to help. The honors class mostly worked together as well, but I was able to provide additional assistance as needed since they take a completely different test.
I know everyone is eager to learn their scores, but we have been told by administration that we cannot share until Tuesday. I have already set up a spot in the gradebook/ParentVUE to share scores so that folks can look them up immediately; it is in the "not for grading" category, so it will not factor into grades but allows for easy viewing. Students can check at a time/place they are comfortable with since there are many who do not like being told where they think other students might see or hear, plus they won't have to wait until they get to my class or until their name is called to learn their score. Students who are eligible for retake will be told once administration approves them and I will start working with them on additional review at that time.
Even though testing is now essentially finished for 7th grade (aside from makeup testing and retakes), we still have plenty of work to fill the next three weeks. My MSM2 classes still have a few geometry units that fall under the Math 8 umbrella and thus are saved for after testing. All classes will also eventually be working on a coding PBL through Code.org; the honors class has an extra week of coding time and no additional topics, so their PBL is a little more in-depth than the MSM2 classes.
I have the rest of the year paced out and most everything planned (though end-of-the-year event details are still being planned by the grade-level, so the last week might still be modified as needed). Things are winding down, but we'll keep plenty busy as we close out the year. As always, please feel free to email at anytime if you have any questions.
