Daily Agenda: October 14-18, 2024
Upcoming Assessments: SUM Quiz 5 Polygons & Congruence (Thurs. 10/24)
Good afternoon! I'm not feeling 100%, so this week will be another fast update. We started the week by wrapping up our integer operations work, taking the quiz on Wednesday. We started taking our first attempts of quizzes on Mastery Connect with the last quiz (FORM 4); I'm not a big fan of that platform as it's not the most user-friendly for the kids and there are complications with some of the problems on there, but it's a requirement of the school. Some of the concerns I have about that platform are part of why some of the kids are struggling with completing their first attempt, but I've reminded them to do their best on that and to not stress over it even if they don't do well. They still have a second (and technically a third) attempt with a Canvas copy I've set up where I could fix and clear up some of the issues I found with the Mastery Connect copy. Additionally, they're allowed to use their notes and receive additional support from me or Mrs. Lee (or her substitute for the time being). Please help me by encouraging the kids to finish as it's the final grade for the first quarter, which ends on Wednesday, October 23rd.
Speaking of the end of term, all grades for my class close out at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, October 22nd to allow time for grading and digital posting. Again, the last grade going onto this report card was this week's quiz, so all other grades for the newest topic (Unit 5 Polygons & Congruence) will be going onto the second quarter. The students do have one final extra credit opportunity for Unit 4, which was posted today. Students are also encouraged to complete any remaining attempts they have on assessments and submit any other missing work. One of the benefits of Canvas quizzes (which is also the format used for the extra credit opportunities as well as the second attempts for all assessments) is that if they forget to submit before the deadline, the system will submit for them, so that's a final backup, but questions left unanswered will automatically be marked wrong. Again, please help me by encouraging the kids to take advantage of these final chances to improve their grades before the term ends.
That's all I've got for now but as always, please feel free to email if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!
