Greetings! My name is Kim Lambert and I will be your 8th grade Pre-Algebra teacher here at N.B. Clements in Room 203. This is my 1st year teaching at Clements, but my 18th overall. I’m a complete nerd who’s always loved math, so I love trying to get even the biggest math hater to develop at least an appreciation for the subject if not their own love of it.
I’m a big tech person, so even the things I might give paper copies of in class have a digital copy that can be found online as a backup. Our work is divided into unit modules by topic through Canvas, but the kids should also keep a notebook or binder for paper work. There are generally only 1-3 grades per unit, but since the notebooks can be used on their quizzes (open notes!), it’s to the kids’ advantage to add plenty of detail to their notes during our practice work throughout the unit. On my Canvas page I have a link to my class website, which offers additional resources. On my class website I also have a backup copy of my weekly updates that get emailed at the end of each week. However, please make note that because I’m new to PGCPS, I’m still making updates to the site and some links might not currently work; they will be working for each new topic and I’ll be updating as we move along. All emails from me will always have a subject starting with "CJHS Math" and come from this address in case you want/need to update your email filters.
As the kids will notice, I often take a unique approach to math, which should hopefully keep them entertained on top of learning the necessary material. For example, my nerdiness extends to being a huge Marvel fan, so I teach scientific notation as “Ant-Man versus Hulk” numbers. If we have enough time at the end of the school year, we wrap things up with a coding project that shows the kids how math links into coding and they will ultimately have made their own simple video game once finished.
I’m really looking forward to seeing where this year takes us and can’t wait to meet all the kids next week! Remember throughout the year that I’m your guide to both the math and tech world, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions at any time.
I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
