Greetings! Full transparency, I'm sending this early as it's been a bit of a rough week for me. One of my aunt's had ongoing health issues and she took a turn for the worse this week. She sadly passed away last night, so I want to head home as soon as possible this afternoon to be with my family. I do want to thank the kids for being pretty amazing this week. I originally only told them I was having a rough week and asked that they bear with me. After my aunt was moved to hospice, I ended up turning yesterday into a catch-up day and the kids just smoothly transitioned and buckled down, working relatively peacefully. Today I've been basically running on autopilot but the kids have been awesome. Thank you to all my students for making this week a little bit easier to get through.
While it was tempting to take off today, I wanted to make sure the kids had materials to potentially work on next week during the likely snow days we'll have. It's my hope that Chesterfield will come up with a plan to potentially allow us to have some asynchronous time next week to (hopefully) eliminate the chance of having to make up at least some of the time. Since we (teachers) weren't told anything in advance, that's looking less likely to happen, but I still sent kids home with papers they can work on if the county does release a plan. As long as I don't lose power/internet myself, I'll be updating Canvas as well. No matter how things go in regards to the weather next week, I will obviously factor in that the kids might all have different experiences during the storm and subsequent days off, so work that isn't completed (assuming the county does come up with an async plan) will be given some grace. I just wanted to be proactive and have a possible plan in place considering everything else is unknown and I will now probably have to miss at least one day for family matters.
I'm going to wrap things up here, though there's probably something I'm missing. If I've left something out and you have any questions, please email and let me know. I hope everyone stays safe and warm throughout the next week.
